It almost seems like the norm amongst the black women I know who are getting married to black dudes.

Too many engagement rings going on the woman's credit card or jewelers account or coming from their "joint" account.

Or the worst, he uses credit in his name but they are paying it off after the wedding.

All I know is, it couldn't be me.

I've always wondered if people feel that they are paying for their own ring doing it this way.

no but I'm not big on tradition. Just because I proposed doesn't mean I buy the ring, or the house.

would you be ok if he said yes and didn't present you with a ring?  or is the expectation (because it has been explicitly stated as such) that after he has said yes he should go out and purchase an engagement ring for you?

I only phrased it that way because my people are white and so most of the engaged/married folk I know are white and none of them did it. I've only seen it with my black friends who have black fiancees/husbands.

This was really one of those times where no shade was intended...just strictly personal experience...not a generalization at all.

I've learned that people get really offended if you point it out to them.
