ScorpioLuv I am so sorry that happened to you. I was speaking on my past experiences and I got this one (and only one) ex that i know if he asked to borrow that much money he truly needed it and would give it back but at the same time he would probably do without before breaking down and asking me for that much money. Now, for the rest of my boos/ex's/whatever you want to call them I'd give them a couple of dollars if I felt like because a grand not worth a lawsuit. But after hearing your story I wanna change my answer to JUST SAY YOU HAD A BUNCH OF UNEXPECTED EXPENSES COME UP AND YOU'LL BE BROKE UNTIL AFTER WHATEVER HE'S TRYING TO PAY FOR IS DUE.

~ He can't be mad at you for being broke
Yup. I'd do just that for any bf here on out. Of course at that time he was my bf. That was just summer '12. Never again. Never. I couldve wasted my own $200. Thats why youre always told, dont lend more than u can afford to lose. Just in case sh*t like that happens. That $200 didnt break me, but I learned my lesson. NEVER again

Think about his track record. If in the past he has always given you your money back (or reimbursed you for your expenses) then I wouldn't make him sign anything but if he has proven himself to untrustworthy then I wouldn't loan him anything that I can't afford to lose. I would either give him a couple dollars towards the 1K or I would make him sign the promissory note (and I would ONLY give him the money if I truly believed that he needed it i.e. he needed to get his car out the impound so that he could go to work).

I cant agree with that. I had loaned an ex some money before about a good 2 times, paid me back on payday, no problem. Third time, I told myself it was going to be the last. Never saw my $200 or him again. I was told by another guy that thats how they set u up to do that. Borrow money to pay it back a good 2 or so times to then borrow more and not pay it back.

Man, that's exactly how I got screwed over. It's cool tho...he got his.

If I was dating someone for 1-2 years, and he wouldn't repay $1k without a promissory note, good riddance.

After 1-2 years, I'd be talking marriage, cohabiting, shared credit, not to mention sharing bodily fluids. $1k is worth a whole lot less than the trust I need for any of the above. If homie isn't trustworthy with $1k, he can keep it, and I'll be glad the lesson was that cheap.

If I had that much to give away, I wouldn't expect it back.
