I don't discuss my sexuality, but I discuss my boyfriend. My coworkers will say, "Wanna go to B-Dubs for lunch," and I'll respond, "No thanks. My boyfriend is taking me to the Thai restaurant down the street." People, regardless of their sexuality, should feel comfortable being themselves. They shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable, because they don't conform to societal norms.

You know what would be weird. If I went to an office party with my husband who I've been married to for three or more years and no one knew who I was. He never brought me up not once in conversation. Everyone thought he was single. I would feel some type of way.

[hypothetical situation. Not married]

People talk at work. One of my coworkers was talking about buying a house with his wife, another went canoeing up North over the recent holiday with his girlfriend. A White lady I work with just started dating a guy in the army. So the gay people are just supposed to never mention their significant others?

I don't know. I work in a very professional setting/organisation and of course I don't share my deepest secrets but I would honestly feel pretty odd if I couldn't share a bit of myself with people I get to spend such a huge amount of time with.

Colleagues bring their kids/spouses in the office all the time etc. Most, incl me will have pics of their kids on the desk. I get the best birthday presents because they know my likes/dislikes - that couldn't be achieved if everything is guarded. It also helps with networking. I recently mentioned something about my background in a convo and a chief exec who was in a meeting I was attending - heard it and a very positive opportunity came out of that.

Whatever someone's sexual orientation in the office, I swear no-one bats an eyelid. And it's a large org.
