In the military thread, someone said "Women want to be men so bad."

I don't exactly agree with them being on the front lines, but I'd just like to know...

Why is it that when women want any type of professional rights and respect (or rights and respect in general) it has to come down to us wanting to be like men? Are those things granted for men only?

I feel like if I'm doing equal work, I want to be compensated & recognized fairly regardless of my gender. I can't help being a woman no more than I can help being black.

My take on these kinds of issues is I want to be equally valued .
With that in mind I believe that women and men are not the same so double standards don't bother me as much tbh.

If we are doing the same job then yes I want to be compensated equally though

And I do believe that some ppl view progression as being able to do what a man does bc it's seen as inherently superior .
I don't believe that.

You're right about us not being equal.

Wanting to be equal to a man cannot be interpreted as wanting to BE a man. If I am doing the same as you I want the same compensation. If I am able to do the same job as you why should I have to take a lower position because of my gender?

Every black woman on here should listen to Sister Citizen by Melissa Harris-Perry.  < id="adlesse_unifier_magic_element_id" style="display:none;">

It has nothing to do with women wanting to be men. It has to do with women not wanting to be told that they can't or aren't allowed to do/be something because they were born as women. We are capable of doing whatever we'd like to and shouldn't have to face opposition when we want to do something.
