 Topic: Will actors ever be as relevant as pop stars?

It used to be that movie stars were very relevant to pop culture, briggite bardot, audrey hepburn and of course the infamous Marilyn Monroe. More recently, Johnny Depp, Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom cruise were heartthrobs in their twenties ( the 80's early 90's) and Julia Roberts too. now the only global superstars are pop stars. Do you think movie stars can regain the throne as the original global super stars?Why do you think the media shifted focus to pop stars?

for one, you can't compare someone like Audrey Hepburn who started out acting in the late 40s/early 50s with the dynamics of the world today.
a lot of music artists at that time were not seen as often b/c media isn't the same as it is today. also, many actresses/actors were also in musicals.
also, i think actors/actresses are just as big in pop culture as pop stars...so i don't agree with this theory.

What actors are as big as rihanna, beyonce or JLO? what actor gets as much coverage as Kanye west or nicki minaj? they are global celebrities

many actors are global superstars though....a lot of american actors get a lot of advertising work in Asia and Europe. obviously it's easier to access music than film but that doesn't negate actor/actress star power.

What PR said plus movie studios had a lot more power back then. They pretty much owned those movie stars and controlled their lives. They also worked a lot closer with the government. They still do (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilderberg_Group  ) but not like it is today.

Tom hanks, Maryl Streep, Anne Hathheway, George Clooney, Denzel Washinghton, Will Smith, etc there are def alot of relevant actors and actresses.
