Hello Lovelies,

I am new to weave/wig wearing , I'm planning on getting my first weave or wig in a couple of weeks. I was just wondering what would be better to get a wig or weave? If I get a wig I'm planning to get the Freetress Creta girl , it is closest to my natural curl pattern but the only problem is when I read the reviews people say the wig wears quickly. Also it's synthetic so I wouldn't be able to put heat on it. Other than that it is a beautiful wig. I'm trying to give my natural hair a break and cut off all the damage/breakage so I can grow strong hair and restore my curl pattern. I was thinking if I got a weave it would probably be the mongolian kinky curly 3b-3c hair but I want to cover my big forehead. What should I do ?

Its really all about preference and what you're looking for .
The benefits of using a wig is that you can take it on and off so you're able to treat your real hair better under the wig.  The con to having a wig like Creta Girl is because its synthetic, you won't get much wear out of it.  Synthetic wigs tend to last only 2 weeks to a month or so.  I've heard of some people being able to stretch them a little longer, but it depends on how you care for it.  Word to the wise: synthetic wigs look HORRIBLE after a while.  Some may argue that ANYTHING synthetic will look horrible, period LOL.
You can get a lot more wear out of a sew in, especially if you plan to use human hair like the Mongolian kinky curly you mentioned.  Its only slightly harder to care for your hair in a sew-in as opposed to a wig.  My real hair has grown a lot since I started wearing sew ins but I treat and oil my hair as much as possible and deep condition and trim between installs.
You have to decide which works better for you...buying a synthetic wig and being able to treat your hair underneath, but having to buy a new wig every few weeks, or getting a sew in which will be more expensive, but having the benefit of not disturbing your hair with heat and tools.
HTH!

Hey Curljunki,

I'm in the same situation as you, I'm natural (4b type curls) and cant couldn't decide between wigs or weave. My first wig was Creta Girl btw and it lasted me 8 months. I made a braided hair band and used it since my curls are more tighter and smaller than Creta girl.

I decided against a weave because I was too scared of having it done wrong by someone. Unless I learn to do it myself..... but if you know someone who is skilled, go for it.

I decided last week on making my own wigs, that way you can get quality hair AND be able to take care of your hair the way you want. A sew in for me is too much covering of my head. I like to touch my hair and scalp soo its a no no for me.

If your nervous about making wigs you can get someone to do it for you like a stylist, but it can be a pretty penny. You can also learn via youtube, you'll save some $$$ that way and its fairly easy. Between this forum and youtube you can learn to make them on your own.

 HTH

The model in you avi pic is gorg!

Thank you so much rubynaturalprincess. I think I'll buy the creta girl because it's closest to my hair and I can take care of my natural hair. How did you keep the curls define and how did you keep your wig from wearing out?

I prefer wigs but am starting to like weaves. Where weave is concerned nowadays it has to be hair that can be washed without mashing up. weaves are more maintenance than wigs to me but I like washing my hair. I used to prefer wigs for curly hair but I have seen some amazing hair on here for curly which has changed my mind almost.

good luck whatever you choose. you could always try both

The problem I've always had is how lazy I get with wigs. I end up neglecting my own hair and having to chop a good amount off because it is so damaged. My hairdresser banned me from wearing wigs.  Go with a weave
