Yes TC, it was a lawyer that wrote the article. BUT the tip is still separate from the gratuity. and i dont nec. trust that the restaurant owners pay over the gratuity or if they do they may take a cut. Id prefer to deal with my waiter/ress who ive interacted with and let the service charge take over the rest of the crew.

i usually do 15%.. i just dont get why they feel the need to put that..

like if i got a 30% discount.. and my bill is like 40 but it would have really been like 55.. why do they feel the need to say to tip on the 'retail' value instead of promotional?

i go by how i feel.. ill so 20% or more if i like the person and have it.. it just depends..
but i think its weird how they always stress that.

lmaooooooooooooo.
samone i'm like that too.  i tip very well when the service is exceptional.   but 20% is standard for me if even if the service is just meh, because i mentally already baked that into the price before deciding to go out.

If the customer pay by credit card, then you have to report that income because it's already in the computers, and most people now adays pay by credit card, especially expensive restaurants.  Only if the customer pays in cash can choose to report however much you want.

That $8/hr for California is rare.  When I was a server in michigan the server minimum wage was either $2.65 or $3.65/hr.
