y'all aint ready for real socialism...LOL

not tipping would obviously have a knock on effect... I doubt the workers would stand for it, so this would force a dialogue between servers and management...

walking off the job and striking was regularly done in "socialist" countries in order to get governments to legislate better working conditions and pay etc (I do thing the French have taken it too far)

obviously a national boycott would be needed to force a change...if its just me, you and our 2 cousins, we'll just look cheap...

all things being equal, prices should in theory remain the same if there is no longer a need to tip, and that additional 15 to 20% that everyone claims they are already paying anyway just gets rolled into the final price so everyone pays it...

maybe that's why eating out in the US is so cheap compared to Europe....  shrug....

yup, it does go back centuries.... but I am fairly certain that when it began, it really was a tip, a gratuity, and not part of the person's salary... it is being abused, and just accepting this abuse is bs

and this...especially if you already know they are not paid well.

i mean i'd respect a person more if they simply boycotted.

but to have all that insight and still go be served and not tip knowing full well you still lining the corp pockets and shafting the worker...well...just seems ridiculous, imo.

To clarify, I do tip when I go to restaurants this side of the world, whatever the suggested gratuity is,given how much these workers earn. When I was in the UK, I would tip according to how I felt the service was... When I worked in a restaurant in the UK, I was on minimum wage, similar to what my friends were earning working in department stores, so I have a different mentality toward tipping. I don't know if the wages are the same there now, but it was always understood gratuities were optional, and not mandatory.

i'm sorry i'm not following.  if the 15-20% gets rolled in...and you already know that dining out is cheap in the US comparatively speaking to Europe (am i to assume there is no gratuity there?)  that means the prices would go up.  yes?

In America it mostly is.
I said it's a social custom AND corps fuking everybody.
Not every country tips...

At the end of the day it's only a small percentage of the bill.
But I see nothing wrong with ppl wondering or questioning why it's done here

There is a reason Americans are know worldwide for being big tippers, whilst Europeans are not...

Its just more entrenched in your societies , not so much in Europe

please excuse the generalisations tho

It used to be a societal norm for black folk to sit at the back of the bus....

thankfully action was taken and progression was made....

and people didnt just sit around and wait for the government to do something about it....
