You mean like a Joe Clark type?Confused I think that would make most kids of today rebel and resist.

No just good black educators. If you start when they are small and make children enjoy bettering themselves, it wouldn't be that way. Schools are filled with too many people who don't care and wanna collect an easy check.

Although this is true, much of this is due to the way the US education system is set up. I have a number of friends who are teachers and the system is rigged to beat the desire to help out of these teachers. For starters, most new teachers aren't getting placed in cushy "suburban schools". They're being sent to inner city schools, where by default there is a huge amount of apathy from the administration to the parents and everywhere in between.

Then when they get there with dreams of helping, they're faced with "budgetary" issues and a collective school mindset of "just pass these little f*ckers to the next grade and let them be someone else's issue". And in states like New York NYC, you're constantly teaching to pass the Regents. So, people start out VERY optimistic, and after a few years of being beat down by the same system that's beating down the students, they stop caring.

I had a number of friends who moved to NYC to "make a difference" as a teacher...several have already moved back to wherever they came from or changed careers.

ETA: The above applies to public schools...NOT charter schools.

IA Model. A great disservice was done to kids when they started teaching test taking over everything else. U.S. education doesn't set up a majority of its students to be successful. They really are just shuffling kids from one institution to the next. I blame the gov't for that. Telling people to take out all these school loans for college when they really haven't even grasped the basics. Children don't desire to learn because they aren't learning anything of value anymore. Everything is a numbers game now & about making money.

Citizens need to boycott & start pulling their kids out because we are lagging behind the rest of the world. There are too many resources available in the U.S. for sh*t like this to even be an issue.

This is very true. And the reason schools slide down the hill like this is because the parents are not involved. I went to a suburban school system, one of the best in my state (and actually one of the best in the country). The parents in general (and my mom for sure) were VERY involved. So, we had the funds to support an International Baccalaureate program, multiple AP courses, a vocational school, tons of extra curricular activities, etc. The government will only do what its constituents let it get away with doing. If parents are (collectively) apathetic in a school district, the children will suffer.

Just throwing this out there, does it have less to do with worshipping white people and more to do with what people's perception of healthy cultural ideals are?

I don't get the "worship white people" angle. If ALL black people really did "worship white people", then less black people would be dropping out of school, having unplanned pregnancies, joining gangs, etc.

This is a cultural mindset problem, plain & simple.

However, at what point do we stop looking for an excuse and start actually progressing and holding each other accountable. I guess it's just because I spend a lot of time in the international sphere and hear all kinds of CRAZYYYYY stories of what other ethnicities have endured at the hands of their oppressors and they're still able to make strides. Hearing these stories over and over just makes me really believe that it's a cultural mindset that many in the black community don't want to change.

ita agree.

I am in the international sphere too and have heard of horrendopus situations .. but those folks eventually cast off their past and got a hold of themselves.

I think the pubic welfare system should abandoned. Just tell folks that in X amount of years there will be no more 'help'.

So that first generation off welfare will be on the streets .. but I bet there will be fewer and fewer people with their hands and making baby after baby ... out if they no matter how pregnant you - no more free rides.

Sink or swim.
