No lie, pregnancy in developing countries can be a death sentence for many. Even 80 - 90 years ago, pregnancy in the US was no joke.

And there ain't nothing wrong with being not well off and having kids, like Iyanla Vanzant says you have to do the work. Mexicans seem to understand whats going over some of yall heads. They doing whatever it takes to have a little piece of something good while having children in the process. They build & invest into their own communities, while you dumb ass niccas are so pressed to leave your own kind to live next to white folks who don't give a about yo ass while you sit back & judge other black ppl.

But ppl are telling men to make better choices. It falls on deaf ears, blame is shifted to society, and the men just keep on with the cycle of killing each other, murdering/robbing/raping us and others, and being deadbeats. The same way its not working to tell women to make better choices, it's not working telling men to do it either. I wish SOMETHING would work. |
No they aren't. How many threads, articles, ads, etc do you see dedicated to telling black men how they need to live, think, behave, so on & so forth? Black women are constantly being attacked from all sides. We're too strong, too educated or we're either too ignorant, too fat, to poor, too ugly. It's just non stop relentless bullsh*t we wake up to every single day while these niccas just coast along & sit & laugh at our misfortune.

They can't afford DVD players and thus spend a lot of time fking. ^My Spanish 3 teacher once insinuated this about people (not just poor) who have tons of kids.

^^IMO this speaks to a community mindset difference. For sure there are plenty of shiftless Mexicans/Latinos. But the general cultural focus is on family and the betterment of everyone in the unit. And in turn that means the community as a whole grows. Part of that is probably because many people are 1st/2nd generation Americans, meaning that they're constantly being reminded of the sacrifices the parents made to bring them here/give them a better life. The black community unfortunately continues to be more disjointed and apathetic in our (collective) approach to life. So many people are willing to settle for mediocrity instead of striving for something better. Instead of encouraging each other to do well, we (collective) put down someone pushing for an education, call someone uppity for not wanting to sit on a stoop and smoke weed all day with them, etc. We don't have enough people who remember the struggle (slavery/civil rights) to instill that fire in the youth.

I would also add that specifically black women are constantly being spoon fed a diet of "you should be happy to have any man - even if he's not really useful/doing his job as a man - so long as you have one".
How many times do we get on people here for staying with a man who is suspect at best, but they always find an excuse to look past his glaring flaws? If we stopped telling ourselves and others to settle for whatever stumbles by our door, that would go a long way in helping our women (and especially young girls) know their self worth.
