Topic: Why do my makeup brushes smell like a goat stable? Posted: Jan 23 2010 at 1:34pm |
I just ordered some brushes, new of course, online, and they're made of pony and goat hair. Now they are the first set of real animal hair brushes I've ever had so when I went to wash them in the sink, my bathroom was smelling like a farm. Is that what they're supposed to smell like?

Real animal hair brushes do have a smell, but it shouldn't funk up the bathroom.
I have squirrel hair brushes and I do smell them when they are wet, but the smell isn't overwhelming.

Oh ok, maybe I was exaggerating. The whole bathroom didn't smell like a farm but when I put them up to my nose I got a little woozy.

You should probably do a couple rounds of washing before the odor lessens.
Real animal hair will have a smell to it at first (especially if collected from a live animal). It's no big deal, just wash before use.
