I decided to transition due my scalp condition. The chemicals in the relaxer would make my hair flake up terribly! I would have scabbed patched all over my head! Though after a while my hair looked great the flakes were embarassing and disgusting. That and my hair was breaking off from the chemicals.

My hair was damaged, dry, constantly breaking off and I was curious as to what my natural hair texture looked like. So I bc'd in August to kick off my hair journey and it's been such a great learning experience. My hair is flourishing now that I have healthy hair practices.
I had been relaxing my hair for so long that I honestly couldn't remember what my natural hair was like. Which is sad, because my younger sister has stayed natural all her life, has waist length hair, has always done protective styling ...

I decided to go natural because I became sick and tired of supposedly "hair care providers" under/over processing, damaging and cutting my hair!!!!

My hair was about BSL when I stopped relaxing, but my ends just began to look awful. I think the damage done when the roots were touched up was just too much, and over time, as the hair grew out, it just got "worn out." I'm about 20 months post relaxer now and pretty happy. If only I could figure out how to get the front and back of my head to even halfway look like they go together

sheer laziness i don't have the energy to stop what im doing to relax my hair anymore....Ive always self relaxed....never had many problems with my relaxed hair except occasional burns......i never really used heat throughout my relaxed hair journey was easier to wash and air dry......also i want to be natural because relaxed hair is boring the same everyday i love the different styles being natural will provide...i love my texture and cant wait to see how beautiful it is once i am done transitioning...

I decided to go natural in 2008 because a good friend of mine was natural and her hair was growing long and healthy. She's my natural inspiration. The health of my hair was horrible. I relaxed my hair way more than anyone should and my hair became dry, brittle, and broke off.
I decided to stop relaxing my hair, but didn't have the courage to cut it off. With much pushing from my friend and being frustrated with my unhealthy hair I gave it a go. Finally after I graduated from undergrad I asked my cousin to help clip off all of the relaxed ends and I haven't looked back since.
I do have my problem areas like the middle of my hair which is permanently damaged from my last (super strength) relaxer, but besides that my hair has grown tremendously! And I too have now inspired others to go natural which feels nice!
I did and still do counter resistence especailly from certain family members who say things like "if you relax your hair it would be so long". What they fail to realize is that my hair would've never gotten this long with a relaxer so
One would think since I'm African natural hair would be embraced, but many African woman are conditioned to think the opposite. It's quite sad....

I was tired on my hair not growing. My hair was so broken because my mom would put the extra strength relaxer for coarse hair and my hair was destroyed I turned 17 and took control over my hair and went natural. CHECK OUT MY JOURNEY https://www.youtube.com/user/LoveNaturally94?feature=mhee

I wanted to go natural from about 3 years ago, so stopped relaxing most of my hair and left the front 1/3 relaxed. Decided to stop completely when I saw my hair really thinning at the crown to the point that I now have a near bald spot which I believe will only spread of I continue relaxing ANY part of my hair.

I always had naturally very long, thick hair until I began relaxing, I could never have a healthy head of hair beyond collar bone length. Now that I am natural I am no longer having to cut damaged, fried ends and am retaining length and thickness at an extremely fast rate. I should be beyond APL by the year end
