Why can't Blacks pronounce the word "ASK"? Why do AA say "axe" instead of ask? We can say "mask, task, bask" but not "ask"(disclaimer-Topic taken from another forum-not my personal opinion)

Why do AA say:
-Finna
-He be, she be
-"I" is as in "I is about to do that"
-Seben (Seven)
-Conversate etc...

Do you think AA have bad grammar? Is it Ebonics/Hip Hop cultural influence? Or is it mispronunciation?

I personally know how to say ask, and so does everyone else around me. I do say "finna" a lot, mainly because I get lazy with my speech and like to use "shortcuts."

It depends on the person. Some people have specific reasons for saying/not being able to say certain things.

For me it's just a matter of slang and being laid back around my friends, I can articulate with intelligence and proper grammar when need be.

I can't pronounce it either but I have speech problems lol. It's just a weird word and hard to pronounce. I think it's a real common mispronounce word that a lot of people think it's the right way to pronounce it based on what they hear.

Like conversate - A LOT of people think it's a word. When it's passed down from generation to generation - it's hard to break the habit. I wouldn't say it's hip hop or ignorant - just that nobody really corrected them. I'm sure if they know the right way to say it - they will try to break the habit and say it correctly.

Hmmm..

I have only ever heard African American celebs say "Axe". So I always thought it was just the hip way of saying it and I wasn't up to date.

I'm from Arkansas...beside the 'i is'-thats just bad grammar. I have to  prepare  to say 'ask', because if i say it without thinking i will say axe!

I am so trying ot enouciate my words better. i had a bit of a lisp when i was a child.

Aseya!  Your hair is so cute and sassy!  I love it!

Yeah, I have no idea.   I can't mispronounce things like that unless I make an effort to (being silly, etc).  LOL
