More people want and/or will spend money to see Tyler Perry type flicks.   If we had a all black sci-fi movie......I really don't think it would get the sales that a TP flick would.  I know there are plenty here that would see a "Thinkin' n'sh*t" type of black movie but lets face it........we're not the majority.  Not to mention............other type folks will go see a TP flick but if it's not a movie based in coonery then other type folks will not spend their money to see it.
 
I do enjoy a few TP movies but TP is gettin in where he fit in.  If the same people that spend Non-matinee type money for a TP flick would spend money on a different type of black movie then black films would get more corporate backing and thus better actors and better films.

Black movies are so bad these days because the bad black movies make money.

if you live in a big city you can check on when film festivals are occurring and look up the black films and see them there. this is what I used to do. I think I'll start again.

there will probably never be a "blockbuster" type movie made catering to 14% of the popoulation of this country. this is the reality.
