Budgets The lack of Black people in high places in the film industry(we're slowly getting there) Fear that no one will respond to material other than the typical Black comedy/drama The sh*t that does well is what people are going to try to mimic

if you live in a big city you can check on when film festivals are occurring and look up the black films and see them there. this is what I used to do. I think I'll start again. |
Exactly, but its so hard to find out when these events happen. Usually they fly under the radar and don't even get a mention in the daily newspaper. I went to my cities african american movie festival and it was mostly white folks in there so if they know about it, then there is no excuse for us not to. Plus, some of those movies/short clips were fairly good movies. |
There's a huge one in Miami from July 6th to the 9th. It's called the American Black Film Festival. They have a few Billboards out here in LA with it advertised but yea, all of the others are usually so lowkey.

Blacks love to hate on blacks. TP movies are funny and that's his purpose of the movies. YOu have to have a sense of humor to like his movies. If you're looking for something to complain about then you'll find it. TD Jakes tries to put some out, and Akil production is working on some, but as soon as anyone put out another show watch the blacks complain. Those are the only black movies you can look forward to coming out. How stella got her groove back and poetic justice are two more movies that were good but I still remember people complaining about those...smh
Precious
For Colored Girls
Jumping the broom
Lottery ticket
those all sucked to me!

I disagree. At least when it comes to me, I don't support or watch
something just because it's black. I watch/support things if they are
good and interesting to me. I'll also suggest to friends and others to
watch something only if I like it or find it worth while. I'm not going
out of my way to support black movies if they don't appeal to me. I
don't watch anything that doesn't appeal to me white or black. Now, if
it doesn't appeal to me and i see rave reviews about it, I'll give it a
shot. If not i won't waste my time. This si just how i feel about it.

I disagree. I just don't find his 'comedy' funny at all. The comedy ranges from crass to super corny to me. That kind of comedy has never been funny to me. The acting is many times subpar or just terrible. It's often overdone. Also his story lines all seem to be the same thing with different characters. They're extremely redundant. The characters are often unrelateable to me or anyone else I know. Obviously not every character in every movie is going to relate to me but Tyler's characters tend to be to eccentric for me. Having a genuine dislike for his writing styles and films doesn't in the least signify that someone is 'hating' on him.

I meant to say comedy, and I just don't like how blacks will join together and talk down on the few black movies we have and then complain when there aren't more black movies out. I'm not saying you have to like his movies but saying he's doing this and that to do the black community is stupid IMO.

I understood what you meant but still I don't find his movies comedic 9.99 out of 10 times. I'm not supporting anything just because it's black. I support what I like and find interesting. If it happens to be black that's just a plus. I however will not bash something if i don't like it. Black or not. I also refuse to accept any crap that comes out and support it in the name of being black. It would be great to have more black films but I will not waste money on something i don't find of quality. If supporting black means supporting the crap as well as the good then I'm not for it.
