| I went from weaves to lacewigs back to weaves and to closure wigs a.k.a u-part w/ a closure and my preference is the closure wig. The reasons are that I could customize the unit to my liking and use great quality hair (glam goddess and yummy hair-I have been rocking mh hair from this company 3 months strong). With the Japanese mesh swim cap which I use to make my wigs, I don't need to do TMM like I did w/ lace wigs. I will say that u-part w/ closure can be more expensive than a lace wig depending on the hair but there is less mistakes and easily corrected then getting a customized unit from a CV or AV.

Its easier to control the installation of a Upart+ Closure if your comparing it to actually installing a LFW. Its like the difference of putting on strip lashes versus an individual lash. Your lash line my be shaped different and its hard to lay the strip lash perfectly. Once you get on side of the strip lash down the other side lifts up etc... but with indi lashes you can place each in the most optimal position so it looks as natural as you want it. When you move a wig...you can't move a part of it. You have to disconnect lift and and shift the entire wig. The most important part of the app if your wearing your hair down is how to get the front to lay naturally. Having the pieces split in half as a Upart or 3/4 + Closure or Frontal allows you to really control your app without doing as much work as a sew in requires. Its like the perfect fusion of the two options of wig it or weave it.
The biggest pro of LFW versus U-part + Closure is its beneficial for those who don't actually "install" the hair. A lot of LFW wearers use combs, clips, bands, pins or nothing to attach the hair and remove the hair daily. This is obviously more convenient for people who use the hair in this manner. A closure can't just really sit on your head and neither can a U-part. It has to be attached. A LFW can be placed on your head in a hurry without being connected or installed. I've worn one LFW to work during the day that's more professional and reserved and a different one in the evening that had more color and flair to go out in. If I had "installed" the hair I would be resigned to that style for x amount of time.
A FLW emerges as a better option when you plan on wearing up do's, center parts in the rear or half parts. However if you always do LFW then you can easily work both U-part&Closure option or the LFW.

This makes a lot of sense I guess. I'd have to see it being done to fully understand the benefit I gues because I have no real frame of reference. It makes sense that the pieces being seperate make it easier to control, the lash analogy made a lot of sense.

Wisney, I've worn both u-part wigs and FLWs. IMO it is a personal preference. Pros for Uparts: *better quality hair *daily use: you can change your look as often as you'll like easily (the TM can also be used with upart wigs) *easier to change the length (i.e. you originally have a 16" wig, all you have to do is change the last few rows of wefts to make it into an 18") *density: I create my own density; be it thick/full or thin/natural Pros for FLWs: *for people like me who should not be touching their hair at all, I can keep a FLW on for weeks at a time *parting: you have more options There are obvious cons to both

How come the quality of hair is so much better for u parts? All the vids I've seen on youtube have featured really nice looking hair and I never understand why the flw vids I see never look like that.
When you use a u-part without a closure, and you have leave out on top, are there blending issues that happen after moisture or sweat? I just have an image of the tiniest bit of moisture causing the leave out to poof up and become obviously seperate from the rest of the wig.

I actually was thinking about this the other day. I plan to make a u-part closure wig in a few months but I think the price would be pretty much the same for either one. The only reason I don't want to get a lw is because I don't really know much about making it look natural. Like I stalk this section sometimes but I've never tried anything and I don't really want to drop a couple hundred bucks on something and mess it up or have it look really unnatural. With the u-part closure wig, if I don't like the closure, I can just take it off and wear the u-part. Also, I don't plan to wear it up in a ponytail or anything other than a middle part or a side part so I don't need the option of parting it wherever.
Since I decided to go natural recently, I do think that if the u-part closure wig doesn't look right with the closure, I may just save up for a lw. I'm getting the closure because the u-part wasn't kind to my leave out at all from having to blend it all the time.

Wind blows with lace wig and I'm not concerned. Wind blows with u part and I'm worried that tracks are showing.
Other than that I like the ability to choose my own hair for upart but the same amount of effort is required to make the hairline and part look realistic for both

Do most women make their own u-part wigs with hair they buy themselves then? I guess that's how you get the better quality hair, right?

For those ladies who say that the hair they use for their u-parts is better quality than the hair on their LFWs, what kind of hair are you using? The quality issue reminds me of a post I made awhile back (and which is also referenced in the FAQ newbie section) about the different grades of hair that is being sold to us.

I only deal with certain AVs when buying wefts like I only deal with certain CVs when buying LWs. I know the quality and the limitations of each vendor.
