I think it depends on the area.  I attended both.  Public schools in upper middle class areas are comprable and at times even better than some private schools.  I do like that fact that private schools have strict uniform policies that force the children to look the same.  Public schools students can look like they are about to walk the catwalk when they are going to school in the morning.  Ridiculous...

I prefer public, but a good public school. Private schools are expensive and don't most don't offer the diversity that some public schools offer.

I think private for the more personal & individual attention, however I'm a big fan of public schools and couldn't imagine anything other than that for my children.  I also agree with the above on diversity which is huge for me!

I believe it depends on a lot of factors most importantly the student. But overall i prefer private schools because u get more individualized attention just as what nichole said

It really depends on the school district. Obviously if the district has poor ratings then private school would be best. But if the district is amongst the best in the country then why bother with private, unless you're a celebrity and you want your children to have some privacy.

If it is a good school, then public........

Private schools are okay if that is what you think is what works for the child. My only thing is, most ppl I know that went to private schools tend to be sheltered then when they go to college they just get loose and let it ALL hang out.

Public schools are a better representation of the real world IMO. The important thing is to find a school with a good balance.

i think it really doesn't matter... i think the key is having our teacher's backs, attending pta meeting's, get to know the other parent's(i mean their child may converse with your child),showing our kid's(not just telling them)education is important.... think about it... teacher's pay sucks.. and on top of that a class of 20something kids that don't respect them... you think they would want the best for your child????.. private or public

I've attended both and I have to say public. I went to a public school from age 7 to high school and it was g-r-e-a-t. Those Jersey schools can be tough. I still reminisce about the good/fun times I had. It all depends on your child and if they take school seriously. Can't just say the teachers don't teach but you're not setting an example for your child either.
