When do you cut someone off financially?

but did you know they couldn't afford insurance/furniture when you bought them the house?

this is part of what I don't get about people buying their family and friends cars and homes

so much goes into keeping and keeping up a home/car that if you know the person can't afford it on their own then should already know you will be paying for alladat forever

With something like buying a house I think I'd discuss things ahead of time with that person that way the KNOW "hey, this is how it goes, once I do this and that it's up to you to keep with everything else financially." That way they know where I stand.
