Decided to fire up the grill and try out a new recipe. Now cooking is just a hobby of mine that I just so happen to be gifted at so it isn't uncommon for me to perfect something the first time I try it tbh.
grilled chicken shawarma out of men's health magazine
for my toppings I used red onion fresh out the garden, tomatoes also fresh out the garden,(not pictured) shredded lettuce from the store
and yogurt sauce. For the sauce I used greek yogurt, fresh squeezed lemon juice, minced cucumber(i love that word, minced), minced garlic and salt and pepper to taste. the recipe also called for red wine vinegar but I substituted that with a splash of pinot noir I had sitting in the fridge.
the chicken looks pale because the recipe called for it to marinate in some yogurt and other spices. I marinated them for 2 hours tbh but next time I think i'll let them sit in the marinade overnight so all of the flavors can soak into the meat. the little nuggets you see at the top were little bite sized pieces of the thigh that I snacked on while I waited
the chopped up chicken
after all that hard work this is what I ended up with. stuffed all of the meat, veggies and sauce into grilled pita bread. I wanted to serve it with some pinto beans but like I said, I just did this on a whim and the beans have to soak overnight, so didn't have time for all that; and I didn't feel like eating this with canned beans.
