My dad used to refer to my husband as "the blackest nicca on Earth" smh

are you a descendant of light brights?

LMAO my mom was, but my father was Will Smith's complexion...I don't know if he counts. But (ironically) my maternal grandparents said that my father was too dark for her daughter. Maybe it was a family tradition smh

LOL

i know it ain't nothing but brightness along my whole family tree. my lightness is so strong that it over-ruled my husband in 2 out of 3 kids. LOL

it sucks how the older ones really had that paper bag thing down.  my dad was 80 when he passed in july, and when he met my husband the only thing he focused on was that he had on brown and was 'lookin like a big ole tootsie roll'.  my husband is denzel's colorConfused

other than that, he is the TYPE of man they expected me to be with, doting to the extent of being spoiling, super family oriented, successful, known well within our community, has service oriented interests, well established financially.  they expected him to have a degree since i do and they are both master's holders, but he was able to do exceptionally well without it.

Same here!
My mother told me I should date someone older after my last breakup.

As long as he's a good Christian Baptist guy that plays golf....i dont think my father will have any issues with him. LOL

To the bolded, they really did, and it's pretty sad. But it sounds like your family got over it once they got to know him. Unfortunately mine never did.

They just want me to marry a man that’s wealthy, respectable, attractive, professional, and Christian etc. My family's not color struck. So they don't care about petty things like race, or complexion. Thank God I've never had to deal with that type of coonery within my family. Tongue
