Topic: What is with the obsession with strippers? Posted: Mar 17 2013 at 12:09am |

It seems stripping is not even considered shameful anymore. In fact strippers are pretty much exalted above other women. Every other song on the radio is about strippers. Why are men so obsessed with strippers?

It's still a negative connotation out here. I do notice it in songs and such but as someone posted, sex sells.

Don't mistake lustful
"admiration" for "exaltation". A guy singing about a girl making her ass
clap on the pole is hardly writing a love sonnet. Consider the
language, they're usually not talking about the woman as a whole person,
but her body parts which reeks of objectification and subjugation. There's nothing respectful about that. I
don't see it as them revering a stripper. But rather strippers make
easy targets for misogynistic rappers as opposed to making skank
comments about a woman who hasn't shown any evidence of engaging in what
could possibly be considered "questionable".

Um correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard nothing positive about strippers. Besides what's said sexually, and that they r hustlers, it's still not looked at highly when u say on explain ur job to class day, that ur a stripper lol.

By exalted I mean men brag about going to the strip club and spending money. They will throw their money away by paying someone to not f*ck them. I don't get it. I guess it's because they know they can't have it? Or getting it costs so much?

I don't know about them being exalted over other women, but what is there to be ashamed about? They're grown people taking off their clothes for other grown people who wanna see . Besides, its not like these songs are referring to them being cream of the crop personality and character- wise( not that a stripper couldn't be), but basically just glorifies their sex appeal.
