jr talk to me when you can show me a rent receipt.
samone.. its a touch screen mta metrocard machine.
our fares.. are easy..its one rate.. and you can go all over w/ transfer for 2.25 when you enter. i dont have to worry about how much i pay to go from a distance to b distance b/c its the same damn thing.

I have to agree with nycdiva. Purchasing metro cards (or whatever they're called in DC) is not as easy as it looks. Refilling your card is even much more difficult, especially on the buses. The bus drivers have to walk me through it. To save myself the embarrassment I refill in CVS.  Now, doing it in NY was much easier. DC is pretty cool. Reading the crime alerts made me much more paranoid. I don't think it's that safe, but I mostly hear of robberies (not that that's good). The transit is pretty cool. I still don't understand peak times, but I love how transportation is accessible pretty much everywhere. Lots of crazies. It doesn't matter the day or time. As someone mentioned, don't make eye contact.

It's become much, much safer within the past decade or so...
If you'd ask me in '99 I would have said stay home. With that said, be as alert as you would be in any unknown place.
I think it's pretty safe but I come from the school of hard knocks yahmean
