I can't tell you much about DC, I've only visited twice but it's like any other large city. As long as you use common sense (You're smart zsazsa!) when navigating the city, you'll be fine. Other members who live there can give good details about where to go and where not to go.
I didn't care for it but I'm a Southern O.

Hahaha thank you. I travel a bit but I don't know why I am a bit nervous about this one! I think it's bcos it's not a package holiday as such but all done on my watch from scratch.

Yes you're right. I meant homeless not crackheads. They used a term I wasn't familiar with.

I suppose they are people who are on drugs but not downright crackheads walking the streets. Certainly not where I live.

Ah, I see. I think you'll be fine. Have you checked out message boards for DC yet? In general, the most crackheads directly do to you is ask for change. I really would not worry about them. OT: NYC, did you get stabbed/shanked near at the WH gates and/or in Smithsonian lobby?
