Can you tell me some info on DC? I have read the generic stuff off the net but I would like more info especially if you live/work or go there often. 

I was okay until I read that it was a murder capital city. *screams*
Apparently there are a lot of crackheads on the street who will make your life hell
They (the crackheads) are also on the metro 
People walking around with pistols

What is safe/ not safe? 
Is there a website that tells you if an area is safe? like in UK, we have 'up my street' site where you can check a location.

I've visited and I like it but I'm a country gal so it isn't for me.
I've visited alot though .

Last time I went was to help my cousin switch dorms at Howard.

He left his car in a parking garage and um when we arrived to DC it was gone poof stolen.

A lot of homeless people. Im not sure about crackheads though. I've never felt in danger in NW, not once.

Yes you're right. I meant homeless not crackheads. They used a term I wasn't familiar with.

Thanks - will be using taxis and metro. Geez I know this is ignorant but how much do you tip taxis etc. Tipping is not big here at all. 

Say taxi is $60, how much do you have to tip? a dollar? I don't like tipping.
