I just started my healthy hair journey a week ago. All the reading I have done tells me that I need to moisturize and seal my ends daily. However, my hair looks and feels so weighed down. It doesn't even move anymore. Please tell me I can use my judgement on this oiling situation. I miss the bounce my hair once had but at the same time I know moisture is important to see healthy hair. Please help! Anything can be beneficial.

Is your hair natural or relaxed?  If your hair is natural I would suggest using water to moisturize and oil to seal that moisture in.  Spritz with water when your hair feels dry instead of using more oil.  If your hair his relaxed I would suggest not using as much oil.

I use only coconut oil or olive oil on my scalp. moisture is key if wearing hair in protective styles.    If you plan to wear hair out occasionally, you should avoid using too much oils.  Perhaps, light moisturizing is better.  Smile

Yes, you should use your own judgement. In MY opinion, there is no need to moisturize and seal your hair everyday. All that would do is cause product build up and weigh your hair down like you said. You really only need to moisturize and seal your hair when your hair is dry. When I wear my hair out, I moisturize and seal twice maybe three times a week depending on how my hair feels.

geesus, i never heard of moisturizing daily. there was a month or two period in which i moisturized my hair one to two times a week and i also applied some hair creme that had oils and i was losing a lot of hair due to heavy manipulation.

i cut it down to moisturizing once a week or less and i have been doing better.

if your hair looks greasy and it is feeling heavy, you definitely need to cut down on the oils.
