Phoebe Philo is the sartorial queen of structure and tailoring, and she stays in line with what she does best for Céline’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection. The designs skew traditional and neutral, with a handful of different prints and patterns. My take on the offerings? I think the fashion house is ushering in an entirely new idea for the season: pilgrim chic. It is virtually impossible not to think of the Mayflower riders with all the large buckles, long overcoats, and wide brim hats at play.

Feminine spins are given to menswear-inspired silhouettes with a double-breasted jumpsuit, a long sheath layered over matching trousers, and suit jackets made ladylike with peplum detailing. Two-tone coloring is back for the season, though in metallics and dark Fall-perfect shades. Accessories range from creeper-esque wedges to simple leather totes and clutches.

You’ll be able to resurrect your leather wares for the season as the edgy texture shows up everywhere here from calf-length pleated skirts to long-sleeve peplum tops.

One can count the number of prints in the collection on one hand, but they give the designs some life: a medallion print look channeling a sari and a multicolor stripe pattern are the only traces left of Summer before the brisk Fall temperatures set in.
