Lent isn't just a Catholic thing.  In case anyone is interested in learning more about Lent:

I don't see the point. If you acknowledge that something is bad for you why not just give it up altogether? I don't see the point in giving up something knowing all the while that you will be going right back to it as soon as Lent is over.

I was just thinking...if you give up the same thing every year for Lent...idk if you're doing it right...but we are human and fall short...so I guess...

The Quakers say exactly the same thing.

Supposedly, lent is the equivalent of Moses en em fasting for 40 days and 40 nights before he said his speech, which is why it's the same length.  I'm not Catholic either, but each denomination have their own version.  I'm not even Muslim, but I observed Ramadaan while I lived in Bahrain.

LOL
You're mixing up the old and new testaments. Lent signifies Jesus fasting and spending 40 days and nights in the desert where he was tempted by Satan.
The Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness if I remember correctly.

40 is a popular number though eh?LOL

To each their own though. I have Muslim friends who celebrate Christmas...maybe not the religious aspect but they observe it nonehtless.
