    Posted: Dec 09 2006 at 3:11pm
I'm just curious. I've been wearing a bun in my hair for the past couple of weeks and have noticed hair growth. Is it because i keep my hair up all of the time or is it something else? I've been laying off of using so many products and I will put it in a bun and spray Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural oil sheen spray on it. Also does anyone else do this? keeping hair in a bun then noticing growth?  i dont know if this is a dumb question...just asking though.

As far as I know, a bun is a protective style. It keep the ends of the hair protected so they don't break off.
Your hair probably didn't actually grow more from wearing the bun, but it was able to retain its new growth because you protected the ends from damage.
Isn't it great how you discovered this by accident?Big%20smile

My mom and my aunt grew their hair past shouler length by wearing a bun all the time, and they never had hair past their necks before that.

I wear a bun now all the time, and I have notice a great improvement in my length. It is because it is a protective stlye, so your hair is resting and your ends are protected. I love buns. They're the best thing since cliced bread.LOL

This is one of the best things I've learned from this forum. I bun like 90% of the time and my hair is doing great. Yes it gets boring always wearing a bun but I'm really retaining length. This is the only protective style I wear.

I love bunning! I baggie my bun every nite with world of curls comb out conditioner spray and castor oil. When I'm not wearing a bun I'm in braids.  I thinking about trying RBB bananna clip french roll, because I desperately need another protective style.

It's all about length retenion and low manipulation.

Your ends are protected, plus your not manipulating your hair very much when your wearing a bun. Your hair is always growing, your just now noticing the length because you've been maintaining your ends by wearing a protective style. Maintaining your ends is key, protective styles and low manipulation styles are a great way to achieve that. I've been bunning on & off since 2004, its one of my favorite protective styles. Smile
