Is it acceptable to peel dirty potatoes and rinse them off once peeled?

My sink has two sides/basins. So I'm not washing my hands "over" anything. The right side, the one with the disposal is always empty.
 
Am I still nassy for washing my hands in the empty side?LOL

same here.  but i think they are saying if you go to prep food in the empty side after filthy/germy hands have been washed then there is a chance that filth could get on the food...i think.
 
either way, i generally wash the sinks out before i start cooking anyway...

i wash the potatoes first, then peel.

LOL some people do that.
I just can't the dirt feels grimey. I rinse, peel, dice if needed and then rinse to take starch off.
