Moisturise with water + JoJoba oil. I have seen other 4c naturals moisturise with this and their flourishes but i guess i have to look for something else. i did this mainly because i didn't want to use hair products with bad chemicals. wanted to use Qhemet products but shipping was outrageous. will prob use them in the future though.
wash and condition every 2 weeks. will increase conditioning to twice a week and change the type of conditioner
cornrow is my PS style. i baggy my end every other day.

you may be using too much moisture
How often do u do a protein?
How often do u deep condish?
Protective styles?
Do u use silicones and sulfates?
How often do u trim?

Look at glamtwinz vid on tips for growing hair.

I think my hair errs to the dry side

Protein- once a month..hair is protein sensitive
DC every 2 weeks...will increase this to 2x a week
Cornrows or braids..hair is too short to do anything else
No sulfate no silicone - only moisturise with oil and water
I do not trim often....will dust every 2 months now

I think the problem is mixing the water and oil together as your "moisturizer". You should spritz with water first to make sure your hair is fully saturated and moisturized and THEN follow with the oil starting from root to tip and making ure not to use too much. Oil is a sealant that can BLOCK the hair shaft from being moisturized any further. It does lock the moisture in but if water is your only moisturizer, you may need something heavier like a cream. Try the LOC or LCO method for moisture retention.

Moisturising your hair with oil and water is not enough at all! especially now it's colder.

My hair is naturally dry and porous too and I *need* a rich, creamy moisturiser to really get it soft and retain as much length as possible.

I see you live in London, there's a natural hair salon opposite Brixton Station called Adornment 365 and they stock Qhemet products but they're expensive like you say. Maybe you could have a look here:

or do some research on which moisturisers would be best. BHM is very helpful, maybe you could set up a separate thread or something for recommendations?
