    Posted: Aug 21 2007 at 5:50am
Hi ladies!

I'm trying to find out step-by step instructions on using RIT color remover (not RIT dye). One of my units has really stubborn knots and I think that it was dyed with fabric dye.  So I need to use the color remover so I can bleach the knots.

If any of you ladies have successfully used the RIT color remover before bleaching previously stubborn knots, I'd be grateful of you could provide some instructions so I don't ruin my unit.

After reading this thread (http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=75937&KW=bleach), I'm a little scared to experiment.

***************************************************
UPDATE:

Everything went perfectly with using the RIT color remover (not RIT dye), and my unit came through with no damage!!!Clap

For anyone who's interested, here's the procdure I used to gently remove the fabric dye from my unit so the knots could be bleached:

Note: This process is to be used when bleaching knots doesn't work because the unit was dyed with fabric dye (like many Chinese vendors do).

Supplies:

1 packet of RIT color remover (not RIT dye)
plastic basin
deep conditioner

1) Fill basin with hot water

2) Dissolve RIT color remover (not RIT dye) into hot water

3) Place entire lf into RIT/hot water mixture, and gently agitate it for a few seconds.

4) Let lf sit in mixture, checking for color lift and agitating it about every 5 minutes until desired color lift is complete.

(NOTE: My unit was color #2 and the lifting process took about 30 minutes.  I didn't want to damage the unit, so I removed it from the mixture when the color lifted the roots to a light brown and the rest of the unit was a medium redish brown.)

5) Deep condition the unit and let dry on wig stand.

6) After the unit is completely dry, you can evaluate whether the knots need to be bleached further.  In my case the color lifted the knots enough for them to blend in well, so I chose not to bleach the knots using the typical hair/face bleach procedure.

I hope this helps all the newbies who needed step-by-step instructions on how to use the RIT color remover (not RIT dye) safely without damaging the unit!Star

I used the RIT color remover because my unit (a #2) was apparently dyed with fabric dye (like a lot of the units from Chinese vendors).  So when I tried to bleach the knots it wouldn't work.  I used the RIT color remover to lift the fabric dye from my unit.

As the color remover worked, it lightened the color of the unit (including the knots) to a light/medium brown.  I decided not to further bleach the knots, but had the results been different, I would have followed this process up by bleaching the knots uing the usual methods.

My lace didn't change color during this process.

Question????  Did you completly stick the whole wig in the solution that you made or did you just put the base of the wig (meaning just the lace part to lighten the knots)
