technically Channel Orange is his first album. the other one was a mixtape. i personally like Channel Orange but a lot of people don't. i think people are critiquing with the knowledge of his sexuality now. then again, mixtape to album is a big leap and some new artists do disappoint. i like that his music goes beyond the style of 'novacane' and 'thinking about you'.
