it limits my choices...yes it does.
if i buy a phone and have fufilled my contract (if a discount was given on said phone), the phone is now my property and i should be able to do whatever the f*ck i wanna do with that phone.
i can buy whatever cordless phone i want to connect to my land line...no one is telling me i can only use this or that phone...

i was auto thinking of people who wanted iphones or certain androids, bought them, and had them unlocked for their carriers.
i hadn't thought of it that way. that is a problem. when i switched from tmobile to sprint, i sold my android on ebay and recouped all of my money. i know it's a hassle for most though.

well...if they bought the phone for retail price, then i feel they should be able to do whatever they want to do with it as well.
the only sticking point would be if they got if for a discount. and even in that case the cell phone carrier will only give you a discount if you sign a contract. if you break the contract (ie only get the phone for a discount only to turn right around, cancel and turn the phone on with another carrier), you will be charged a cancellation fee.
i just do not feel that cell phone companies need any more help (regulation of this nature) causing more hassle for and limiting customer choices...

SMH that's BS. Switching carriers isn't the only reason people unlock their phones...
For example, sometimes carriers disable features because they want you to pay them extra to be able to use the feature when it is an included capability of the device.

It's really easy to buy an unlocked phone.
But i am concerned if carriers start refusing business to those who have unlocked phones.

just curious...for those who are used to sim cards. is it possible to just pop the sim card into any phone (with a sim card slot) and use that phone??????
i know nothing about sim cards, since i have been with the V since i first had a cell phone. my current phone (droid razr max) uses one. and actually i almost threw it away because i didn't know what it was when i first got my phone in the mail. i kept trying to turn the phone on and play with it before activating it...no beuno. finally i read the quick start instructions and realized i needed to insert the sim card before i could even turn the phone on...

I JUST heard a T-Mobile commercial urging AT&T customers to bring in an unlocked phone to do...something or other...for less.
