I've been wearing a wig lately to protective style and I keep my hair in flat twists underneath the cap. Lately I've been very busy and could not wash my hair for 3 weeks. Once it was time to take them down for wash day, I noticed that some of the ends had locked and I had to cut them. Is that normal?

Maybe your hair lock fast or got tangled up. When i take out twist or braids i make sure to oil the ends if not my hair will knot up.

When you twisted your hair, did you twist all the way to the end or did you leave your ends loose? I usually wear my hair in twists under my flw's and I've never had that issue. And I literally went nearly a month and a half without washing my hair this last time and still didn't have any locking on the ends or new growth.

The only time I ever had locked hair was when I used to wear micros for too long and the new growth would get full of dirt. :(

I would also suggest (if you're not doing it already) to spritz your hair with a detangler or conditioner/water mix. It helps to make it easier to detangle so you may not have to cut off any potential length that you would have gained from PS'ing.

@ rell: I hadn't thougt of oiling the ends. I will try that from now on
 
@ modelbusiness: I can never twist all the way to the ends, there's always a few strands that stay out. No matter how much I cut the ends, they always end up frayed, tbh, and if I were to keep cutting all the time, I'd have nothing left. I guess it's probably the reason why it's locking.
 
I'll try spraying a water/conditioner mix from now on. I usually do the water/glycerin mix but it's getting colder outside so I will switch it up.
