Dead chickens, roosters found in Rock Creek Park; police believe part of ritualistic killing

A person walking along an isolated path in Rock Creek Park on Tuesday
afternoon discovered the carcasses of eight chickens and roosters with
their throats cut in what police say may be part of a ritualistic
Sgt. Lelani Woods, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Park Police, said the
uniform way each bird was killed is leading investigators to believe
the killings were part of a cult practice. The bodies were turned over
to animal control officers.
The discovery was made about 3 p.m. in
an area of the park north of the 3500 block of 17th Street NW, near an
area called Piney Branch Park. Woods said police believe the birds were
killed elsewhere and dumped along a makeshift path sometime before snow
started to fall Tuesday morning.
