Glassdoor is a little more accurate than Salary.com.

for me at least, it was a combination of things based on
•how much my work experience was worth
•how much they were prepared to offer me
•how much my peers in similar positions were making

you can check glassdoor.com

you can start with housing (should be around 25-30% of your income), car expense (gas, insurance, yearly maintenance), food, medical, other important expenses

figure out what you will need to make (per month, then per year) in order to cover those costs

that's all I got right now

I know about online cost-of-living comparisons but I feel like more has to be taken into account before salary negotiations. Or am I just over thinking it?

Come to Columbus ohio. Good wages if you have skills and training and college. Nice prices for apartments and houses.

When you move to a different city with a different standard of living, how do you ladies and gentlemen decide on an acceptable salary?

I live in an area where the standard of living is super low; consequently, so are the wages. I'm trying to figure out how to determine an acceptable salary in other cities with the same standard of living (or better) than I have now.

Help?

I'm new at this adult thing. Ouch
