Eh you will be fine.  I did that and my hair was okay.  I decided to stop relaxing for good because relaxers in general was too damaging for my hair and hair is just too damn delicate for that harsh chemical.

I have relaxed hair and it was doing fine as long as I was relaxing every 6 weeks or so.  It was a lot thinner than my natural hair would have been but I was ok with how it looked.  I have suffered misfortune for the past 3 year and was only able to relax every 3 months or so and may have gone longer than that a few times.  Each time I relaxed, it was apparent to me that hair broke off because the two textures weren't compatible.

For my hair, if I get too much new growth, there will be breakage.

Hope this helps.

In the beginning of transitioning, I did experience ALOT of shedding that was so bad my hair would shed just by me running my hands thru my hair. I thought maybe it had something to do with a beautician I went to who blew my hair out. My hair broke off a lot on the right side of my head and this was probably about 5-6 months in. This circumstance is what made me decide to stop relaxing my hair and go natural but I didn't think it was because of the two textures since I was still getting wash and sets on a regular.

Hmm...they were right and wrong. It can be damaging as people who transition often find no matter how much they care for the two textures, they begin to shed like crazy. Like you, I had gone months between relaxers. The time before I actually bc'd, I went only 6 months before I decided to get one but the constant styling had me from shoulder length to neck. If it works for you, by all means continue, It can give your scalp a break and save time from the relaxing routine, however you're risking breakage.

I finally relaxed my hair again after transitioning for about a year and a half. Someone told me that this was damaging to my hair to switch up like that. Is this true? When I was faithfully relaxing before transitioning, I would go 3-4 months in between touch ups and always thought it is good to stretch longer. The relaxer came out good (did it myself using ORS) but a little scared as to any possible damage I may have done to my hair.
