Where I come from we drink the rain water that we collect in reservoirs, but I won't try that ish where I live now. Rain water from an unpolluted area tastes a tad sweet and just delicious.
I have a brita and it works for now, i hope. But this is actually one of the main reasons I'm leaving this part of the world. Water is just too important for a human for it to be sketchy. Water is supposed to alkalize the body! Not make it sicker.
I worry about flouride in my water too. I don't know ifthe filter takes that out!

Blood Worms Invade Okla. Town’s Water Supply

Aug 29, 2013 12:53pm

The discovery of blood worms in a small Oklahoma town’s water supply has forced a “do not drink” order as well as a school closure through Labor Day.

“Right now there’s still a precautionary water use advisory, so still encouraging people not to use the water for anything except bathing, not to use it for food preparation, brushing teeth, drinking,” Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) spokeswoman Erin Hatfield told ABCNews.com today.

The blood worms, also known as red worms, were discovered earlier this week in the filtering system of Colcord, Okla., population 800, about 80 miles east of Tulsa.

The worms range from a half-inch to an inch long and have no known health effects, according to Hatfield.

“They weren’t coming out of people’s faucets,” Hatfield said. “They were found in the distribution system, originally at a convenience store that was having their filters serviced. And they were found in the filter.”

“The chlorine won’t kill them, the bleach won’t kill them. You can take the worms out of the filter system and put them in a straight cup of bleach and leave them in there for about four hours, and they still won’t die,” Cody Gibby, Colcord water commissioner and vice mayor, told ABC’s Arkansas affiliate KHBS-TV.

The Cherokee Nation donated cases of bottled water to Colcord Schools and the town’s emergency management office has been distributing water to residents including Rachel Miller and her family.

“It’s crazy. My kids are out of school. We have no water. We can’t even cook with it, so it’s pretty bad,” Miller told KHBS-TV. “When you go without water, you kind of miss the simple things [like] being able to go and turn your faucet on.”

“The DEQ will be onsite sometime this week to inspect the facility and try to ascertain how this may have happened and hopefully to find a way to prevent it from happening again,” Hatfield said.

i wouldn't be surprised!!

and i know that it's callous of me (as far as docs wanting it that way), but that's nothing but the pharms. med reps are a trip and just like college athletes resisting bribes, docs/hospitals get caught up in that $$$.

they won't flat out say, oh, so and so gives me ____ to prescribe ____, but they are definitely persuaded, let's say, to consider it. pharms/reps have whole ridiculous budgets set up wine & dine, pass out merch, make donations. smh.

yes girl . prescription drugs are in almost every home medicine cabinet  these days lol. Much different than it used to be Everybody is on something.  Seems like the docs want it that way. I heard one doc say that if they could some docs would recommend   statins be put in the water supply like flouride LOL. They just think everyone should be on one.

the water company thing is par for the course. you know how that is: didn't want to cause public panic becomes total cover up and _____'s water supply found to cause _____. restitution paid.

as they're a public service, they should be regulated (or better yet, volunteer) to share the reports in plain language if they're so concerned with preventing public panic.

I read they were pushing for drug return programs.

But when I read that the water companies didn't usually release results of pharmaceutical screenings  to the public because 'we' wouldn't know how to interpret them (read: we'd panic)--that made me nervous.

Top that with  other articles saying that a high %  of medical facilities are flushing unused meds down the toilet.. scary.

i don't blame you for that purp. no one knows the long term effects of ingesting trace cocktail amounts of pharms like that. i'd be especially concerned if i were pregnant how that would effect not just my fetus (obviously), but a growing child. there's not supposed to be a large concern. however, local health/law or fda are starting to organize more med collections for proper disposal.

this all came up when we cleaning shelves and she was mentioning mostly mood stabilizers-- lithium is supposed to be a big one.
