When my male best friend saw my hair, he loved it and said he hasn't seen a black woman in her real hair and texture in a really long time and that it was refreshing and gave him a sense of pride. But he ain't too conditioned, anyway. We stay de-conditioning all the time so
i was expecting him to be proud of my 4ZZZZZ

Good for him and her for embracing us, and deconditioning (haa--no pun)

I can say I never experienced this with my hub. I cut all my hair off and told him on the phone and he said 'oh'
Then i had baby ass twists and he said I looked beautiful. It made me so much more confident that he loved me in my kinky glory. Then it grew longer and he begged me to wear my fro out, but I wasn't ready. Then I realized I just don't like that look. Now when he comes home, i'm usually styling my hair and he goes 'in front of the mirror as usual' lol. I'm not even in the mirror all that often.

He saw me in a high bun with twists and that's his summer favorite. So over twists but...too lazy these days.

My hair was considered "long" and people still asked why I wanted it to be "nappy". Long looser curled/wavy is considered good hair.

Long 4b hair is still considered magic & eligible for upgrade (relaxer/texturizer).

I can understand men having an issue with going natural at first.
They have grown up in the same community as you have remember?
It's a journey for them too.
They have to learn to embrace it just like you did.
