yep, 
the story they often tell about Rosa is way oversimplified. It took me a while to learn she was an activist before that event and it was a part of a bigger movement. It's not that one act but the totality of her impact in civil rights era that deserves recognition. We as Black women have so few role models who were publicized during that time so you'd think on a Black woman's site her contribution to american history would be celebrated more enthusiastically. But yeah, nothing surprises me these days.

That wasn't the first time Rosa defied that law, though.  Claudette Colvin and an older woman were the first to not move from their seats.

Yes it was her... do you know anything about her?


She was 15 and pregnant when she did it so they didn't want to put her as the face of the revolution. Even activists were pretty conservative. Rosa did it a few months later.

Pretty messed up.

I'm going to pay this statue a visit this week!

I heard the first was a teen aged single mother.....but people did not rally around her because she was not "proper".......I don't know if its true though....
