Do any of you guys have a learning disorder? When did you find out? How has it impacted your life? What do you do to treat/cope with it? Have you ever been in a relationship with someone with a learning disorder? Did it effect the relationship?
I just recently was diagnosed with a learning disorder during the holidays after being fed up with not being able to do things that I know I should be able to do and going to a psychiatrist. Treatment is working swimmingly and I've improved ten-fold. I've decided not to share it with people unless I feel very comfortable with them because I know how people are when it comes to mental health. Plus people tend to see mental illness as an excuse so I'm not going to go down that road with folks.
Share your experiences.

My dad has adult ADD, not sure if that counts. My best-cousin is a little "slow" she receives a check from the government but she makes more than I do right now. That's all I know of.

ADD is indeed a learning disorder.

I have a learning disability and ADD. My grandma got me test through a speech therapist that was when I was in kindergarden. It's hard but I'm making it, sometime I get frustrated cause I see everyone else not have to working as hard as I do. But I can say that I'm bless that I have come so far.

This is how I feel. It is a blessing that I've made it through to my senior year of college (doing pretty well if I do say so myself) without being treated. Never realized how much harder I had to work than others til recently cause I'm a loner.

You really should. I even look at life differently now. Defintely more optimistic that I know its something that can be help and not just me being "lazy" or however else people have described it in the past. Come to think of it a good deal of my spankings as a child were the result of my learning disorder.

I have ADHD and it has been a severe impairment for me since there was little discussion, much less treatment programs when I was growing up (I'm in my fifties). It's disheartening that it's still taboo because knowing what it is and being treated by a professional have vastly changed my life. Before I just thought that I was bad and couldn't understand why it was so hard for me to learn.
