oh, I know that getting compliments mean nothing. I've seen a chic in the make up section with drawn on mega brows that looked utterly ridiculous and unnatural and she got compliments on the regular.LOL

I had  thick brows but years  of plucking had damaged the follicle and they won't grow in so I fill them in. I get compliments regularly.

My eyebrows are thin and I get nothing but compliments when I fill them in. I think whether your brows look good filled in is in your technique. As with any step in makeup, blending is key. I trace the lower and upper part of my brow, and use a spoolie to blend that in with the hairs. Sometimes I'll do it a second time, or fill in the very sparse areas very lightly with the pencil. Then highlight, and blend the highlighter. You look stupid with an outline around your brows.

You all know I'm a hairball. People really like my brows and ask me if I do them or how to do them.
I have shape them and use a pencil to correct mistakes, fill in gaps. etc.  I do use concealer above and below the brow, but I blend it out and finish with face powder.

The goal is to look polished, not like you just got them waxed in the middle of summer.

I wish people would just fill in there natural arch, no need to go above and beyond. It rarely looks good.
