Based on the article, I'm not upset by how they handled it. They wiped her hands, which is procedure, found something and had to check further. They couldn't just take little mama's word that it came from her chair, they had to check.

And her mom knows she would have really raised hell if they took her kid off in some other part of the airport... TSA does come up with a lot of bullsh*t but this is not one of those cases.

It's also been proven that TSA is less effective than other private firms providing the same services at some airports like San Francisco international.

We're basically pumping money into protecting the airline industry.

I guess this is the price we pay to assuage fear.
And that would be fine if it elimated the threat...it doesnt

There is a congressional report about TSA's inefficiency and glaring vulnerabilities .
There are so many journals and articles and reports about the wastefulness of TSA from the staff to the wasteful technology they've bought only to he stored in warehouses of no use to us.
Also the body scanning machines they have can even check for weaponry in certain spots.

I could go on and on but Im glad that Congress has noticed and have made cuts to their budget and I hope there are more to come.

I'll take the TSA's work in all of its short-comings. Something is better than nothing.

ETA: And this is from someone who's written in religiously about restricted items that I accidentally got through TSA.

You can say they should've used common sense in this case, but you really never know.

As much as I fly, I'm not phased by any measures they take. Not one bit. Young, old, black, white...you gets no sympathy from me unless you were assaulted in some way. I have yet to hear a story that makes me do something other than shrug.

And yes, Ive been poked, patted, and prodded (even weave checked) by TSA. If it bothers you, dont fly.
