I love this picture, it helps definitely show people the correct way to measure. However, it's a little deceitful, as it shows the belly button being at the smallest part of the waist. I don't know if that will ever be the case for anybody. THE BELLY BUTTON IS NOT YOUR WAIST MEASUREMENT.

Also, I see a lot of people measuring their hips at the widest point of their hips, but not including their butt. Which is fine, if you take a hip AND butt measurement. However, when models/actors/whoever posts their hip measurement, they use the measurement that includes their butt. It's a lot easier to picture someone's body type with the three simple measurements, rather than a bunch of other random ones from different parts of the same body area. It isn't WRONG to measure things such as just the hips, no butt, but generally when giving someone your measurements, you use the measurements that include the largest hip/butt measurement and the smallest waist measurement. I've had people argue this with me so much here, and I don't understand why. Dead

I've also found that it's best to measure in front of the mirror so you can make sure the tape measure's straight. Can't tell you how many times a crooked tape measure has messed me up, especially when I was first getting used to taking measurements.

Your doing it right twisted Tonguebut as long as that girl is consistent it shouldn't matter too much bc she'll still be able to track her growth correctly

Also if u start at 1' you would have to subtract 1 from your overall measurement to get it correct not add Thumbs Up

I got a question.. okay so I was browsing the maca thread and a lady said when you measure make sure you start at 1 is this true..

I know it sounds silly but this is what I mean

Do I start measuring before the 1 or after the 1 cuz I start measuring before the 1 and if that is wrong...Confused

Then I've been measuring wrong the whole time!! I've been wondering why my progress is slowing cuz it seems like my body is bigger.. that means I would have to add an extra inch on everything..boobsClap buttClap thighs Clap hipsClap and tummyAngryAngry

I actually learned today that after D cup, you don't add the 4" or 5", you just use your ribcage's natural size. Learn something new everyday...

If you look at the picture above you will see a black line going around the center-line of the buttocks. That line is where you want to measure your butt size or hip size which in most cases will be about 8 inches below your waist line. The easiest way to find the butt size is too measure around the largest point of your buttocks. The blue line above the butt size is going around the high hip bone which will measure your hip bone size. In most cases the high hip bone will be about 4-5 inches below your waist line or you can just feel where your hip bone starts. ( I explain where your waist line is in part II below).

The hip size technically consist of two measurements, one is the high hip bone and the other is the low hip or butt size. The size that most women usually want to increase is the low hip or butt size. Unlike the high hip bone, the low hip can increase in size far greater than the high hip bone at least for most women due to the ability to store more mass in the buttocks as well as develop the largest muscles of the body, the gluteal muscles. The high hip bone can increase in size as well by performing exercises that target the side hip area like side lunges with weights or side steps with a resistant band; however, the muscles in the side hip area are significantly smaller than the muscles in the middle of the buttocks which is what the butt size measures. This is why you hear people saying you can not increase the size of your hip bone (referring to your actual hip bone length) since that is impossible. Just like you can not make yourself taller. But like I just said, you can increase the size of your high hip area some by mass gain and weightlifting.
