Topic: Why are black movies so bad these days? Posted: Feb 09 2013 at 11:00am |

Movies today suck all-around, not just black films. Most films these days are assembly line products anyway. I think movie studios have more so something to do with what is shown in theaters than the lack of individuals trying to create a good and / or unique script. The studios have an idea of what has worked in the past and still use that format when they decide to support a certain films or idea. |
No wonder mytripd to the movies are years apart. At one time, I didn't go for like 7 years.

Not true. Puncture was a fascinating film. When is the last time you saw a good film by a black director or at least written by a black screenwriter.

Hmm interesting. What a lot of people don't know is that even if you make a fukking excellent film (and this goes for a lot of indie filmmakers, it's not just a black issue per se), if no-one wants to distribute it, no-one will see it. I remember hearing about this guy who made an awesome film while he was still at university (can't remember his name or the film, just that he was black ) but it literally sat in a cupboard for over 20 years before someone saw it and drew attention to it.
Good distribution is one of the key ingredients that makes a film successful. That's why you can go to the cinema and see a film like "The Avengers" in London or Paris or LA or Tokyo.
Nowadays, more and more (black) indie filmmakers are using the internet as an avenue to distribute their films/tv shows (like ABG). I read an article on clutch about this new all-black sci-fi called "The Abandon." I haven't got round to watching it but I will soon.

Exactly Qualified and you know what burns me up the most. It's white folk that tell our stories and write great scripts and execute good cinematic vision. Then they win the awards for it. It's a f*cking shame.
