I have noticed that many ladies have been made to be afraid to buy hair
from certain vendors. All of your fears are unfounded. As a medical
professional, I have had numerous incounters with lice and I would like to
use this forum to educate and relieve the fears out there.

1. An adult louse needs warmth to survive. Within hours of leaving its
host (the human scalp), it begins to dry up and can no longer reproduce.
It will die within 48 hours.

2.Nits are the eggs of head lice. Prior to hatching they are close to the
scalp and very had to see. Nits require about a week to hatch. After
hatching, they are easier to find, because the empty shell takes on a white
cast

3.The nits, or eggs hatches into a "baby" refered to as a nymph. They
mature quickly, reaching adulthood in about 7 days. Durring this time
they need constant nourishment.(human blood)

4. African Americans very rarely get head lice. Simply because of our
grooming practices. Any hair product with oil will cause the parasite to
suffocate, because oils simply clogs up its breating apparatus.(spiracle)

So, to get lice from any hair that one buys. that hair would have to be
SHAVED off the donor head and placed on your head within a few hours
for the adults to live and replicate.
In reference to the nits, the hair would have to be SHAVED from the donor
and placed on your head within 7 days, so the nymph could begin to feed
immediately.
To maintain and enviroment for these lice to feed, one would have to
never put any type of oil based product on the hair or scalp

Since this hair has to be collected, processed in some manner, and then
mailed to the customer, the 7 day limit will be easily surpassed many
times over. Not to mention, the required maintenance of the correct
temperature, like that of the human body (98.8 degrees) .

So, this brief explanation of the life cycle of human head lice, should
relieve any fears you may have.
If by chance you do find white nits on the hair, remember that it is just an
empty shell which can be removed for simple cosmetic reasons, nothing
more.
