I had a professor say to us the worst decision he ever made was to become a professor. He said it is a stressful thankless job. I take what he said with a grain of salt as I know many professors who love their jobs but I can see how tenure, grants, test scores, etc can be stressful.

stress depends on you, not the job

some people would still find stress in meditating

Some people just ain't meant to teach.
Being a professor seems like an easy job to me.

LOL I used to work as a  drill press operator. It was super easy, didn't have to think about what to do next, just turn on the radio or play some CDs and work. Made pretty good money too for an 18 year old.

My professors where quite happy. They where from industry & chose to go into lecturing full time & they where paid loads of money & loved their subjects.

Some still did did their jobs part time, mainly the architects & geotechnitians

Professor is spot on at number 1.

I have heard so from many tenured professors.

BWAHAHAHAhaHA at #1...bitch please

I've been a university professor for years and it stressed me out to the point of a nervous breakdown. It's gravy if you're a TENURED professor, but there are so few tenure positions and so much competition. Tenure is extremely difficult to achieve, and the politics behind it are ridiculous.

You KNOW when you're taking a course with a tenured professor
They still very much respect their craft but you KNOW they are tenured .

One of my classmates was complaining about something or the other and said she was gonna report him.
He did a literally LOL and said please , I have tenure.
Plus he was chair of the department
