you will more than likely lose the strands with the white bulbs at the root. this is a sign that yuor braids are too tight and the tension has literally pulled the strands plus their roots from your scalp.

Ideally, I would say remove the braids immediately but i'm sure that you probably spent a good amount of money and/or time on them and are not ready to give up on them yet. So, try giving them a good wash to loosen them up (a trick that i like to use, but be ware that it can make them a little fuzzy), deep condition and moisturize to give your hair a bit more elasticity.

so very true...if you leave them in you can try to keep your scalp moisturized with a braid spray or leave-in conditioner...even grease that has hari food in it (sorry can't think or a good one right now..its been a whoile).  It happened to my cousin before and she took some in the center down and put it in a loose beehive.

That happened when i let the Africans braid my hair in Houston. Never again. I lost a WHOLE MICRO BRAID from the back of my head.......with my hair included! It thinned out my edges SIGNIFICANTLY!

I'm not sure, it could be a mix of both your hair naturally shedding but can't fall naturally since you have braids and that they are too tight.. I'd take them out.. I had kinky twists for all of 2weeks.. Took me a whole wknd to do them but they were too heavy so I had to.. I'd rather save my own hair than keep the fake stuff

^^yeah it's normal, but this is different. when the hair is done too tightly where it is being pulled out the scalp, or the added weight causes tension, it's not a goo thing. to the OP, just wash them if you really want to keep the braids in, a braid spray to moisten the roots, and also try to do styles or ponytails wear it wont cause anymore hair loss.
