third world is still used in relation to some countries...and yes, countries are categorized based on their socio-economic status...not every developing country is at the same level. so i'd say the various terms makes sense

Those terms are falling out of favor and don't have much use anymore.
Like no one at all says second world countries anymore.


Of course there are differences China with all it's power and influence is still considered a developing country and Jamica is considered a devolving country even though they are on entirely different planes.
