I guess I'm not understanding why a person doing hair out their house needs to be licensed. If her work is good, then so what? If u want certification, go to a salon. Point blank period.

^^ This. A pissed off customer assumes the risks associated when they allow a kitchen stylist who constantly makes it very clear that she is unlicensed to do their hair. If they want professional work they need to go to a professional and pay professional prices. Stern Smile

I'm not arguing that. I personally don't think its a problem if you're not working in a salon.
I fully believe that the responsibility is on the client if they knowingly go to someone that is unlicensed.
Either way the law would probably be in favor of the client...

Regardless she does good work and definitely has a trademark style. I doubt her clientele cares.
I just figure it would be best to protect herself.

In FL, the cosmetolgy course consists of 1200 hours. This license allows you to apply 'chemicals' to your clients as well as other things. So as long as she isn't permanently altering the clients hair, then she should be OK, but the client still assumes the risk of an unlicensed stylist.

if you couldn't get a straight answer then chances are no. I mean if your licensed you would say so it's not a secret right?

the thing is she works in a salon, or at least a place that she goes separate from her home to work on clients and im pretty sure they are made to believe that she has a license, cuz she definitely has them paying licensed cosmetologist prices

@Teasedblack's comments

Ummm you charge according to your worth. If people feel she is worth it then they will pay. If her prices are as much as professional certified licensed stylist....skip her and go to another person who is licensed. Its not that difficult. People always wanna get a professional installs(not weaves<--this word is so not 2013), styled, cut and expect to look like Beyonce when leaving someones kitchen/garage/bathroom next to the un-made bed with the stroller in the corner stylist, then get mad cos the $50-$200 she charged was too high.

I've seen teasedblacks installs and they look just about the same as everyone else's. The cut and styling is the wow factor.  The client assumes the risk. meh

That comment just made my morning but it is beyond true. People expect way too much and want to pay $50.

yea I get that but you dont have be liscened to do certain things like braid or cornrow. sometimes thats how some girls get there foot in the door. another thing you can do is work for free for like two years and get your liscene. its called an apprenticeship. either way you should be able to find out if someone is liscened but, again if someone ask you wouldnt you just answer if your not hiding anything?
ask a real stylist about it and I bet you would get a straight answer.
